September 8, 2025 Fabweld celebrates King’s Award presentation
A leading UK steel products specialist says it will continue to drive forward its green
ambitions after being officially presented with the King’s Award for Sustainable
Development.
Fabweld Steel Products (FSP) formally received the prestigious award from the Lord
Lieutenant of Shropshire Anna Turner at a special ceremony at its headquarters in Telford.
Guests at the event included Chief Executive of Telford & Wrekin Council, David Sidaway,
former chair of the Marches Local Enterprise Partnership Mandy Thorn and members of the
Invest Telford team.
Managing director Wayne Carter said it was an immensely proud day for the company and a
recognition of its work to invest in cleaner, more efficient manufacturing.
“This is the highest honour any business in the UK can receive, so naturally we are thrilled
and humbled to have been selected.
“We have been on a significant sustainability journey in recent years with substantial
investments in solar energy and the installation of specialist equipment to generate nitrogen
on site.
“And we will continue to do everything we can over the coming years to drive down our
emissions and carbon footprint, and work with our supply chain to ensure that everything we
do is as sustainable as possible.
“This award is a reflection of the commitment of each and every one of us who work at
Fabweld to do the right thing for the business, for our local community and for the planet.”
The Lord Lieutenant of Shropshire, Anna Turner said: “I’m hugely proud of achieving a
Kings Award for Enterprise in Shropshire. They’re extremely difficult to come by, and to have
a company like Fabweld, that’s doing so extremely well, it’s really brilliant. And I know that
they will have been scrutinised from top to bottom. They are a hugely successful company
and with a bit of luck, they will be here for a long time.”
Fabweld is one of 197 organisations nationally to be recognised with the King’s Award for
Enterprise this year.
The company, which was established in 1998, designs and manufactures standard and
bespoke access covers (manhole covers) and other fabricated steel products for the
construction, water, energy and security industries.
It introduced solar panels in 2022 and gave every member of its workforce a £500 bonus
from the savings it made to help with their own energy bills. The generation of nitrogen on
site has removed the need for it to be delivered by tanker, cutting carbon emissions in the
process.
Fabweld has installed EV chargers on site which can be used by the community, currently
offering the cheapest rate in the area at 30p per KWH. The company is also a leading member
of the Telford Sustainability and Energy Cluster. It has pledged to halve its emission by 2030
and achieve net zero by 2050.
