March 7, 2022 Keeping cool in Crawley

During the recent heatwave over the August Bank Holiday, there was only one place to be in Crawley – cooling down in the water fountains in Queens Square.

The bespoke water feature was installed as part of a £3.2m redevelopment of the town’s central plaza in 2017 and features one of our hinged FAB PAVE™ access covers that provides access to underground services.

The cover was supplied to contractor Blakedown Landscapes (SE) Ltd through the merchant George Lines. We also supplied the firm with a number of FAB Pave access covers when it carried out a major upgrade of the entrance areas at the Natural History Museum in London in the same year.

The covers are designed to allow access to vital services below ground while blending the floor’s paving with the overall surface.

We recently visited Queens Square to carry out maintenance on the hinge mechanism of the access cover and saw the fountains in full use – they were proving particularly popular with children making the most of the warmer weather!
